University Remodel to Include Starbucks

This is part two in a series following the remodel of dining facilities at Dakota Wesleyan University.

Virginia Wolf once said, “One cannot think well, love well, or sleep well if one has not dined well.” I believe that this encompasses why Fresh Ideas is going to be a great addition to the Dakota Wesleyan University (DWU) family. At our university, we build ourselves upon four pillars; faith, learning, leadership, and service. However, I don’t think any of them can be fully achieved if there is a lack of well-prepared food to drive us forward. A large percentage of DWU students are athletes or participate in an organization on campus, so having good food is also very important to fuel our successes.

Renovations are coming along smoothly. Tile is being put in, and serving areas are starting to take form. There is a window area knocked out and being redone! There is also a Facebook page called @DWUfood which I encourage you all to like. Fresh Ideas has been posting some pictures of delicious food. It makes my mouth water just by looking at it, and I cannot wait to have some come fall! Fair warning, do not look at it if you are hungry – it will only make you hungrier. (Update: I just tried some of the food and can confirm that it indeed is delicious!)

Another feature some students might not know about is that the campus café will offer Starbucks Coffee through the We Proudly Serve Starbucks program. Students are around the café a lot since it is located in our library. It is the perfect place to fuel our Mondays, cram for deadlines, and finals. For the students that have heard about this update, they’ll be pleased to know the socially responsible coffee brand will be offering customer favorites; including espresso, tea, blended beverages, and hot chocolate to become available.

I asked some of my fellow students what they were anticipating most for this new partnership with Fresh Ideas. They expressed how they were ready for different food options and loved “the thought of a completely renovated space full of tasty food!” Niki Nelson, another DWU student, mentioned that she was eager to have a place to “create memories by eating good food with good friends.” I can attest to this as I have unknowingly turned meals into 2-hour long conversations full of laughter while just hanging out around the table.

This renovation and partnership with Fresh Ideas aren’t just about the food; it’s about how we can bring people together.

Mckenna Rogers is a junior at Dakota Wesleyan University learning about graphic and web design, business, and math. DWU is a private, liberal arts university associated with the Dakotas Conference of the United Methodist Church and located in Mitchell, SD. Rogers actively participates in track and student ministry council while working on campus, and as a sales and marketing intern at a local company. She is an avid food lover who is beyond excited for Fresh Ideas to come to DWU.
